Cigarette smokers are protected from corona infection.-English-

Non-smokers are at higher risk for corona infection.

As you know, the WHO cannot be relied upon to tell you what to do about the corona. Many countries around the world have reported that the proportion of smokers among infected people is much lower than the proportion of habitual smokers in the general population (smoking rate). For example, in a survey of 7,172 infected people in the United States, where the smoking rate was 13.8%, the number of smokers was only 96 (1.3%). Clearly, this is a small number. Another study of 4103 people by a different research team had 212 (5.1%). It’s also small.

A paper published in the New England Journal of Medicine, an American medical journal, included the percentage of smokers among those infected in China. In China, the percentage of smokers among 1,085 infected people was 12.6%, about half of China’s 27.7% smoking rate. It is ironic that it was the WHO that surveyed the smoking rate in the general population for comparison. Other studies in France, Germany, and South Korea also reported lower rates of smoking among infected people than the rate of smokers.

Among the countries that conducted these studies, France is set to begin clinical trials to see if nicotine can be used to prevent and treat new coronavirus infections.

The study at the Hospital Pitié-Salpêtrière in Paris found that for every 343 patients admitted to the hospital, there were 15 smokers, or 4.4 percent. This was far fewer than the overall French smoking rate of 32.9%, and the team concluded that the results were statistically significant, as smokers were protected from infection.
